River Valley Arts Collective: Rachel Mica Weiss - Programs - Al Held Foundation

As the first outdoor adaptation of Weiss's ongoing "Topographies" series, Yield presents a vibrant yellow and orange rope lattice undulating across the highpoint of the landscape that overlooks Al Held's studio complex. Binding 32,000 feet of rope together with 66,000 zip ties, Weiss transforms her materials into a meditation on the dynamics of constraint and growth. The net hovers above the land’s natural elevation grade, suggestive of a topography of centuries past, worn away through slow geological erosion. The site’s slope guides viewers around the network, bringing them to new orientations and sightlines. While synthetic fibers comprise Yield, its proximity to the ground and its embrace of grass growth from beneath its porous surface reminds us that plants were humankind's first fibers.

Rachel Mica Weiss (b. Rockville, MD, 1986) is a sculptor and installation artist based in Gardiner, NY. Yield is curated by Jess Wilcox and organized in partnership with River Valley Arts Collective. Please click here to reserve your spot for a guided tour (RSVP required).
