On November 9th, join artists Nayland Blake, Susanna Coffey, and Sharon Louden for an informative conversation about sustaining a creative life over the long haul. Hosted by the Al Held Foundation, this engaging discussion will offer practical advice and hard-earned wisdom about centering one’s life around an individual art practice, focusing on aging, lack of retirement and healthcare for artists, and pivotal moments that shape creative lives. The event will take place in Al Held’s historic painting studio and conclude with a reception and book signing.
The panel is one stop on a national tour showcasing Louden’s recently published anthology Last Artist Standing: Living and Sustaining a Creative Life Over 50 (Intellect Books, 2025), which presents personal narratives by 31 artists who have continued to create well into their second half century. Both Blake and Coffey contributed to the volume and will extend their thoughts in dialogue with Louden.
Free and open to the public, but RSVP is required. To reserve your spot, write to info@alheldfoundation.org, indicating the number of guests and vehicles.
