An exhibition of new work by Jenny Jisun Kim will open Saturday, June 14, in the Drawing Studio. As the Bard MFA / Al Held Foundation Archive Fellow for the 2024-25 season, Kim created this new body of work after studying Held’s Alphabet Paintings and their exploration of language as abstraction. An artist and translator, Kim’s work spans both painting and poetry translation, with a particular focus on translating Korean poetry into English. In her paintings, she explores the fluid and often imperfect nature of translation, highlighting the indeterminacy of language and symbols. Through both her translation and visual art, Kim views language as a dynamic, ongoing process—one that continuously shapes and reshapes meaning.
Kim is based in Union City, NJ, and holds a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Painting from the Milton Avery Graduate School of Art at Bard College.
