In September 2019, the Foundation offered its first-ever hands-on workshop. Gene Benson, Al Held's longtime studio manager, instructed a class of 18 students from SUNY New Paltz in painting techniques essential to Held's studio practice. After watching Gene's demonstration of bending and applying masking tape and painting forms with crisp outlines, the students created their own classic Held shapes on prepared canvases.
